Peru 🇵🇪
Your nickname and age:
Hekatex: I’m Hekatex, 24 y.o.
Jane: Jane, 31.
Fer: I’m Fer, I’m 41 years old.
How did you discover cosplay and what made you start in this hobby? How long ago?
H: I discovered this wonderful hobby at a convention 9 years ago and after getting immersed in this otaku world little by little, I decided to start doing it myself.
J: I’ve always admired cosplay on the Internet but 4 years ago a workmate told me about the conventions in my city and I got motivated to make a costume and go. It turned out so well that many people liked it and I found this hobby that allows me to grow and that I love doing.
F: I knew what it was about more or less, but got closer to it for real about 4 years ago thanks to Jane who is in the duo with me right now. I was motivated because I’ve always liked manual arts, such as carpentry and others, and it was interesting because making costumes required different techniques, different materials and tools.
Why did you choose your project for the ICL preselection? Is this your first time joining an international cosplay competition?
H: Gemini Saga has always been my favorite knight and I wanted to bring it to life in the best way possible. It was a beautiful coincidence for me to participate at ICL, being the first contest that I had the pleasure to enter, and I enjoyed each stage of it until I got here.
J: Yes, it’s the first time for me in an international contest and I’m super excited. We chose Ashe and Mcree from Overwatch for the duo. We loved the “Reunion” short film and especially the development of these 2 characters’ story. I love Ashe because of her looks and her boldness and intelligence. And the costume of course.
F: I really like characters that wear armor, biomechanical pieces, some firearms and luminous gadgets where I can put LEDs. Overwatch has many characters with these characteristics, but the interaction between Ashe and McCree was a perfect fit for what Jane and I were searching for for the preliminaries.
What does cosplay mean for you? And what is your favorite part of the hobby?
H: Honestly I don’t know how to explain its meaning but it’s so wonderful and satisfying to be able to act as a character that you admire. Mi favorite part is taking pictures with everyone.
J: For me cosplay is just for fun and, even though I don’t deny that it’s stressing and makes you nervous before each performance, the result makes me want to continue doing it for some time longer. My favorite part is when I finish and see the result of those sleepless nights and dreams that came true.
F: Right now cosplay is my main and favorite hobby, it replaced other things that I like to do. My favorite part is that with each new costume you get to face challenges as you try out new techniques and/or materials. It requires a lot of creativity if you want to get good results and brings satisfaction when you reach your goals.
What do you expect from your visit to Spain? Is this your first time visiting the country?
H: As it’s my first time in Spain, I’m looking forward to having fun, meeting new people and taking a lot of pictures with everyone.
J: To get to learn more about this hobby, meet more people who love cosplay, give them an excellent performance that they would enjoy and, of course, inspiration and learning. Yes, it’s my first time in Spain.
F: It’s my first time in Spain. I hope to represent Peru in this contest in the best way possible and also to meet cosplayers from other parts of the world which will certainly give me the biggest motivation to continue getting better at this art.
Have you decided your project for the finals in Madrid? Can you give us a clue?
