Your nickname and age:
Caiva: Caiva, 23 yearsā old.
Lu: Lu, or if itās cosplay, Scotch Viking, 22 years old.
Ivan: I donāt really have a nickname, I just go my my name, Ivan. Iām 21 years old.
How did you discover cosplay and what made you start this hobby? How long ago?
C: As most other cosplayers, I found cosplay through the wonders of the Internet. I remember finding some cool pictures of people dressed up as Final Fantasy characters but didnāt give it much thought at the time. Not so long after, a friend of mine invited me to a local cosplay convention and was I intrigued. I started cosplaying in 2011 with bought costumes since I wasnāt sure what exactly this ācosplayā thing was and whether it was something for me or not. It wasnāt until years later that I finally gathered the courage to try and make the costumes myself. Since I was little, Iāve had a huge interest in costume designs and weapons from games and movies and always thought how awesome it could be to make myself, and cosplay seemed like the perfect solution to that.
L: I discovered cosplay through my sister, around 8 or 9 years ago, she had always been dressing up and playing with make-up, so when she started cosplay I didnāt think much of it, but after I started reading manga I were hooked on the idea of cosplay.
I: When I was young, for a long time I actually thought that I was the one who INVENTED cosplay. I thought it could be super cool and I couldnāt understand why no one had thought of dressing up like that beforeā¦ Until I actually became friends with someone who asked if I wanted to go to a convention and I discovered that it had been around for quite some time.
I started to cosplay 6 years ago, but my first entirely homemade one, is from 3 years ago and was for me and Lucasā first ever cosplayshow performance!
What was the reason behind your costume choice for the ICL preselection? Is this your first time joining an international cosplay competition?
C: To be honest, Quinn was never meant to be a competition cosplay. I saw her skin back in 2015 and thought it would be interesting to make. She took a long time to complete since she was more or less a side project from my main costumes. In the end, I decided to try and compete because it could be fun and I like giving my costumes a purpose. This will be my second time Iām participating in an international cosplay competition. My first time was the Nordic Cosplay Championship in 2016
L: I didnāt choose Ratcliffe, he was kinda just dumped on me. When my cosplay partner and I āchooseā what to do on stage, we make the act first and then place characters that fit the act. This is my first international competition so Iām really excited and oddly enough Iām most excited about sleeping in a hotel and Iām super pumped on trying the local cuisine.
I: As we donāt have time to make a new act for ICL we will be reusing the act we qualified with, but we are making small changes! The idea came from one of our friends who misspelled āSavagesā and thus, an act was born! This is our first time joining an international competition (AND convention) and we are both super excited!
What does cosplay mean for you? And what is your favourite part of the hobby?
C: Cosplay is an important part of my daily life because I use it whenever I need to relax from a busy day. Iāve always loved to be creative and Iāve found cosplay not only to be very interesting but also a nice way to express yourself. My favourite part of cosplay is the process of creating the costume itself. Itās a fantastic and very diverse hobby that always brings a new challenge to the table, whether that being an unusual material or a different technique, there is always something new to do!
L: Cosplay for me is stressing and screaming over my sewing machine, because I never learn to start making my cosplays in good time, I wouldnāt trade it for the world tho. My favorite thing about cosplay, is to stand on the stage and deliver a performance to the audience that I believe they will enjoy.
I: For me, cosplay means making people laugh. Iām not good at sewing or craftingā¦ But performance is what is really important to me. I couldnāt care less about the crafting, as long as the audience feels like someone is there for THEM.
What do you expect from your visit to Spain? Is your first time visiting the country?
C: This will be the first time in Spain so Iām really looking forward to the ICL; to meet all the amazing people and the whole experience in general!
L: Iām not really sure what to expect, Iāve been to Spain before, but only as a tourist so Iām excited to experience a Spanish Convention for the first time and compare it to the conversation Iāve been to.
I: This is my very first time visiting the country and I expect to be sweaty and confused, but definitely mostly excited to see everything! I donāt get to travel much, so I am really looking forward to see Madrid and experience an international convention!
Have you decided your project for the finals in Madrid? Can you give us a clue?
C: Iāve decided to reuse my Woadscout Quinn as I donāt have time to come up with anything new. The ICL was an unexpected but awesome surprise for me this Summer.
L: Well, we didnāt have a lot of time from when we qualified to our departure to Spain, so weāre doing the same act, but weāre aiming to at least improve our acting and some beauty flaws on the cosplays.
I: Same as for Genki, where we qualified! A little clue I can give is, that itās a very, very serious actā¦ But we did bring some sausages??
Describe the cosplay community in your country using five words.
C: Talented, sweet, amazing, adorable, crazy.
L: Dinner in cosplay at McDonalds.
I: We are serious about McDonalds.
Where can we find your works?
