Sweden 🇸🇪
Misa (solo): Hi I’m MisaCosplaySwe, my name is Alex but most people just call me Misa. I’m 21 and have cosplayed for 7 years. Cosplay is my big hyper fixation but I also love other crafts like woodworking and jewellery making.
Tenkou (duo): I’m Märta! But I go by Tenkou. I finally turned the big 30 and I love to create, crochet and craft. I love details like hair and makeup and in my free time I love to try all the local food.
Yumidun (duo):Â Name is Hanna, online I go by Yumidun! Turning 27 later this year, and I’ve always loved being creative. Be it singing, crafting or spending too much time in character creation.
Â
How did you discover cosplay and what made you start in this hobby? How long ago?
Misa (solo): One day my friend randomly suggested I try cosplay since he knew I really liked anime. I had never thought about it myself before and immediately started planning my first cosplay!
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo):Â We both started in 2012! We simply saw so many cool costumes online and wanted to be a part of the cool cosplay g a n g s we saw at conventions. I mean.. they’re pretty cool right?
What does cosplay mean for you? And what is your favorite part of the hobby?
Misa (solo): It sounds a bit dramatic but cosplay is really my life. I don’t know what I would do without it. It’s my hobby and how I spend all my time with my friends. I could never pick just one favourite part with it.
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo): Cosplay has played a pretty big part in our lives both creatively and socially. Sharing your interests and hobbies with other people in the community is the best part about cosplay for us. Â
What changes do you see in the cosplay community in your country compared to when you started?
Misa (solo): The Swedish cosplay community is just amazing and has always been but something i continue to see every year is how the skill level just keeps going up and up with each year. Everyone is super happy to help eachother out and I have learnt so much from competing in Sweden and I’m excited to see what I can learn from the contestants in the ICL!
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo):Â More open, more mainstream, more accepted and it’s become a really good gateway for people to try and find what they want to do professionally. Cosplay competitions have even been shown live on national television in Sweden!
Why did you choose that project for the ICL national selection? Is this your first time joining an international cosplay competition?
Misa (solo): The ICL is my first time in an international competition and I’m so excited to bring my Tiny Tina cosplay. She is so expressive and energetic, it makes it so fun to portray her on stage. I actually only chose to cosplay her cus my friends wanted to make a Borderlands group and thought she would be a good fit for me.
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo):Â It’s neither of our first time at an international competition and we chose these characters because we have a very limited set of mutual fandoms to choose from but we both absolutely love the Batman Universe. Tenkou is a big DC movie buff and Yumidun is our dictionary, and collector, of all things comic book Batman.
What do you expect from your visit to Spain? Is this your first time visiting the country?
Misa (solo): I have no idea what to expect since this is my first time competing internationally. It’s not gonna be my first time in Spain, but it will be my first time wearing foam armour in such a hot country and I’m a bit worried I will melt away…
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo): We have both been to Spain before and that’s why we are so excited to be back because we absolutely loved our time there and all the people we met. We are hoping to meet our old friends again and get to see the country from a more local perspective. Tenkou will eat her way through the trip while Yumidun hunt for maritoñi.
Â
Have you decided your project for the finals in Madrid? May you give us a clue?Â
Misa (solo): I will be bringing my Tiny Tina cosplay that I qualified with.
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo):Â A little bit crazy, a little bit catty. You’ve probably seen these guys before.
Describe the cosplay community in your country using five words.
Misa (solo): Inviting, Talented, Divers, Vibrant, Home
Tenkou & Yumidun (duo): Tight-knit, LGBTQ+, «teaterapor» (tr. comedic theatre buffs), inventive and detail-oriented
