Switzerland 🇨ðŸ‡
Cide (solo): Hello, I’m Cide from Switzerland. I’m 32 years old and I’ve been cosplaying since 2010. I’ve represented my country before in ECG 2018, C4 in 2017 and Eurocosplay 2016. I work as a police officer and I love crafting, traveling, cinema and photography.
C-L (duo): Hello, I’m Camila- Laure, but people know me online as C-LConception. I’m 32 and I started cosplay nearly 14 years ago. I had the absolute pleasure to represent Switzerland during ICL 2019 in solo, this time I come back in duo with the amazing Chihiro. I can’t wait to be back and take part in this amazing contest.
Chihiro (duo): Hi everyone, my name is Clementine and my stage name is Chihiro, I’m 26 and I fell in love with the cosplay scene in 2014 and in 2015 I participated in my first contest. I started making my cosplays entirely on my own in 2017. This is my second time representing my country in an international contest and I’m extremely proud and happy to share this experience with my big heart sister C-L.
Â
How did you discover cosplay and what made you start in this hobby? How long ago?
Cide (solo): In 2009, I went to a con with a friend for the first time and I’ve seen a lot of people wearing cosplay. I didn’t know it was possible to make your favourite character and bring him to life. I immediately fell in love with this art and the next year, I was on stage with my friends for the cosplay contest.
C-L (duo): I discovered cosplay in 2009, but I was on stage in my mom’s music show at the age of 3, so I was quickly interested in the hobby. I’m really fond of analyzing designs and figuring out how to make them in real life, but stage performances also have a special place in my heart… It is a complete and complex art formand I love that !
Chihiro (duo): I discovered cosplay at polymanga 2014, because a friend of mine at the time pulled me into the cosplay contest and said «you’ll love it since you love dressing up». And unsurprisingly, I fell in love with the hobby when I saw the first cosplayer on stage : Erza from Fairy Tail. Incidentally, the cosplayer wearing this character is none other than our Swiss solo representative for this year’s ICL, Cyde. For me, cosplay allows me to overcome my shyness and share precious moments with my friends. What I love about cosplaying is getting together to prepare for a scene, and then going through it all together.
What does cosplay mean for you? And what is your favorite part of the hobby?
Cide (solo):Â For me, it means challenge, creativity and friendship. My favourite part is to learn new techniques and meet people from everywhere. I think this is amazing that cosplay exist in each country and everyone has something special to teach you
What changes do you see in the cosplay community in your country compared to when you started?
Cide (solo): I think I am very lucky because we have an amazing community in Switzerland. We are a cosplay family and we help and support everyone. I don’t see a lot of changes, except that the family grows and the level increases each year.
C-L (duo): Of course I’ve seen many changes in the years I’ve been there, but the most amazing thing to me is the talent and passion of new cosplayers. They now have such an impressive lvl for their firsts projects, I’m really happy to be able to witness so much talent.
Chihiro (duo): Since I started cosplaying, I’ve realized that there are so many different ways and techniques. A lot of tutorials have developed the quality of the costumes and pushed it to a crazy level of perfection.
Why did you choose that project for the ICL national selection? Is this your first time joining an international cosplay competition?
Cide (solo): I choose Cruella because I loved the movie and the character. More than this, all of her outfits were amazing ! It was really challenging form me and I was proud with the result so I decided to try the ICL national selection with it. It’s not my first international cosplay competition but each competition is unique and I can’t wait to discover ICL.
C-L (duo): I’m very happy to be wearing the Queen of Hearts for this competition, since the Alice in Wonderland story is one I cherished since I was a child. As a matter of fact in 2019 I came with the March Hare from Sakizou, haha.
Chihiro (duo): We chose Alice and the Queen of Hearts by Hannah Alexander because Camille is a fan of the Alice in Wonderland universe and as I’m a fan of the artist Hannah Alexander we found the perfect match. By the way, many thanks to ICL for accepting Hannah Alexander’s designs.
What do you expect from your visit to Spain? Is this your first time visiting the country?
Cide (solo): I went in Madrid few years ago as a study trip and I visited a lot of Art Museum. I remember that I loved the food and the city. I can’t wait to go back and visit the city with some friends and have good time together.
I expect to meet new friends and spend an amazing weekend together. I also hope that my country will be proud of me and that the public will like my cosplay.
C-L (duo):Â I had the chance to represent my country many times and ICL is one of my favorite places to go. The Spanish public is passionate and loud (I love a loud crowd) and I always had a good time here, I feel a bit at home during this event.
Chihiro (duo): In 2019, I was lucky enough to be Camille’s helper. With Giulee, who was the helper for the Swiss duo, we were able to visit Madrid as two big art history tourists, and the Prado was a daydream.
Have you decided your project for the finals in Madrid? May you give us a clue?Â
Cide (solo): I choose to make one of my dream cosplay for the finale. It’s a character that I love to cosplay. I feel powerful and badass as her. Its gonna be a lot of work but I want to make my best for the ICL finale.
C-L & Chihiro (duo): Not that much suspense here, we’ll be wearing the Queen of Hearts and Alice adding even more sparkles and glam to the costumes we had for the selections. Camille only has one thing to say : OFF With her Head !
Describe the cosplay community in your country using five words.
Cide (solo):Â Friendship, Family, Support, Helpful, Welcoming
C-L & Chihiro (duo): Family, Talented, Passionate, Meticulous and LOUD !
