Switzerland 🇨🇭

Your nickname and age:

Ailyta: Ailyta, 29 years old.
Jigsawphia: I’m Jigsawphia and I’m 23 years old.
K5: Hi, I’m K5. I’m 25 years old.

How did you discover cosplay and what made you start this hobby? How long ago?

A: I started 3 years ago. I discovered cosplay during Japan Expo, and I decided that I would like to try too. I finished my costume, did a performance… and never stopped.
J: I started cosplaying 8 years ago. I discovered cosplay going to conventions. I met some girls that are now my friends who cosplayed and offered me to take part in it. I’ve been making costumes every year since then.
K5: I’ve been cosplaying for around 3 years. Jigsawphia introduced me to cosplay shortly after I met her, after one year following her to conventions and seeing her taking part in contests I decided to give it a shot. I was hooked instantly coming back from stage and kept going until now.

What was the reason behind your costume choice for the ICL preselection? Is this your first time joining an international cosplay competition?

A: It’s not my first time, and I joind the competition because I liked the contest – but never thought I wold be selected! So I put on my Triss Merigold costume, because I wanted to compete in Switzerland with it (that’s my way of “finishing the costume”: making a performance)
J & K5: We chose Alice Madness Returns because we both love the games and universe. We wanted to make a duo for a while now and once the occasion presented itself we chose two characters/outfits that weren’t made too often and tried to create something original on stage.

What does cosplay mean for you? And what is your favourite part of the hobby?

A: Cosplay allows me to reunite several fields that I really enjoy, like crafting, sewing, acting, photography… my favourite part is when I have to choose the materials, and the first time that you try on your costume!
J & K5: For both of us it’s a really good way to express our creativity as well as a personal challenge. We also like the technical part and getting to try many different techniques and tools. The community part is also very important to us as we love sharing with others. Our favourite part is presenting our work on stage after a long period of intense work. It’s kind of a ritual that closes the creative process and brings a huge feelling of accomplishment.

What do you expect from your visit to Spain? Is your first time visiting the country?

A: Meeting new people and some old friends. And discover new ways to experiment an international contest!
J & K5: Sadly we won’t have much time to visit as we have some obligations back home but we really look forward taking part in the competition and finally meet everybody! Jigsawphia has already visited the country and for K5 it will be a first time.

Have you decided your project for the finals in Madrid? Can you give us a clue?

A: I’m a hardcore The Witcher fan… so you can expect something from the same game!
J & K5: Yes we have ¡ And we are working hard on finalising the costumes. We can’t say too much for now but we sure are going to “float” on stage in Japan Weekend.

Describe the cosplay community in your country using five words.

A: Unity, family, friendship, animated, unique.
J & K5: In Switzerland there are only three – Swiss Cosplay Family
